setup, a device was the first of three exhibitions presenting the emerging practices of six artists engaged in reciprocal research, writing, and art practice. Here we encountered a ruse, a gesture, an inquiry, a paradox, an axiom, a farce. These devices compete and contend in a voluminous site; staging their interrogation or subversion of subjects such as politics, theatre and identity. setup, a device included video works, installation, sculptures and a live performance. Presentations and crits were also held with a number of tutors and students from the neighbouring art school.
